G2 coach Eetu “sAw” Saha has explained the thinking behind the team’s latest AWP change as the new lineup begins its Esports World Cup playoff run. G2 moved Álvaro “SunPayus” García to the bench and added Artem “r1nkle” Moroz, choosing a younger and more aggressive player for a roster that the coach felt had stopped progressing.

The first matches have shown both sides of that decision. sAw praised r1nkle’s mechanical range, but he also acknowledged that the newcomer can chase one duel too far or mishandle a small situation while learning a new system. The coach expects an uneven adjustment period rather than an immediate finished product.

G2 still reached the playoffs. sAw described the Mirage game against M80 as close on the scoreboard but largely controlled in terms of the economy and the flow of the map. Against BIG, he saw good stretches on Cache and Inferno, while Ancient became the difficult map: G2 let a promising start slip, fought back on the CT side, reached match point in regulation and then lost in overtime.

Why G2 Chose a More Aggressive AWPer

sAw said the decision to move on from SunPayus was based on several factors, not one isolated problem. G2 had remained at roughly the same competitive level during the previous lineup’s run, so the staff assessed every position and asked whether the roster still had room to improve. The coach continues to regard SunPayus as a good player and a valuable voice, but G2 wanted a different balance on the server.

The specific quality G2 sought was initiative from the AWP position. According to sAw, several players in the lineup naturally lean toward more passive or calculated roles. r1nkle is willing to move the front line himself and look for the first advantage instead of waiting for the round to reach him. That gives the team another attacking option, even though the newcomer will not be used as a conventional entry fragger.

  • r1nkle brings a proactive AWP style and remains useful when a round puts a rifle or pistol in his hands.
  • G2 expects an adaptation period while the newcomer learns where his initiative helps and where one extra duel becomes a mistake.
  • The team does not need r1nkle to direct the whole round because huNter- and NertZ already provide important voices.
  • The missing natural entry role remains a separate problem that the coaching staff must solve across the lineup.

That last point is important to the roster’s construction. sAw noted that the current group does not contain a direct replacement for Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa’s natural entry style. NertZ is effective in calculated entry situations, while Matúš “MATYS” Šimko is better when he can work a duel or follow as the second player. huNter- is still developing as an in-game leader, and sAw does not want to disturb HeavyGod’s consistently strong output.

The solution therefore cannot be reduced to telling r1nkle to run first into a bombsite. G2 wants his aggression to appear through opening attempts, mid-round decisions and high-impact kills. The rest of the lineup must adjust its roles around that weapon rather than treating the new AWPer as a replacement for every quality the team previously lost.

How sAw Plans to Manage r1nkle’s Development

The coach believes r1nkle can offer a broader mechanical toolkit because his value is not limited to the AWP. He highlighted the player’s movement and comfort with several weapon types, then described a system in which teammates retain the wider overview while r1nkle concentrates on his own positions. In that setup, one timely kill in a clutch or an uneven mid-round can become the difference.

There is also a communication trade-off. Removing one strong voice can make team communication calmer and less competitive, but sAw said G2 also lost some of SunPayus’s ideas and his attention to details such as economy tracking. Practice and official matches will show where the new balance needs further adjustment.

Area sAw’s assessment
Reason for the change G2 wanted more aggression after the previous roster appeared to reach its ceiling.
r1nkle’s strengths Aggressive AWPing, strong mechanics and useful ability with rifles and pistols.
Immediate risk Inconsistency and overpeeks while he gains experience in G2’s system.
Entry role The team still lacks a natural entry player, and r1nkle will not be assigned that job.
Communication Fewer competing voices can simplify calls, although G2 loses some of SunPayus’s ideas.

G2’s change is a deliberate bet on a different type of round-winning impact. sAw is not presenting r1nkle as an instant cure or criticizing SunPayus’s overall quality; he is trying to create a more active team without breaking the parts that already work. The playoff campaign will provide an early test, while the coach’s comments make clear that the real evaluation will require more than a handful of matches.

The roster move also leaves G2 with two jobs instead of one. The staff must teach r1nkle the limits of his freedom, and it must redistribute the entry work that does not naturally belong to him. Success depends on those pieces meeting in the middle: the AWPer should change the pace of a round without being asked to solve every structural weakness around him.
